Why do I often focus on your digestion during treatments?

If your gut is working well, then it provides the resources for all other body systems to function well too.

Your gut absorbs the nutrients and fluids vital to making healthy blood and efficient energy.

Blockages or dysfunction of your gut can hinder its process, causing a number of symptoms… and not only in your tummy!

Common manifestations I see in clinic from poor gut health are:

  • Mental health issues

  • Fatigue or weakness

  • Migraines / headaches / dizziness

  • Skin conditions

  • Poor sleep

  • Abdominal discomfort

  • Weakened immune responses

  • Cardiovascular irregularities

  • Infertility

  • Menstrual irregularities

  • Autoimmune conditions

Also, if you suffer from irregular bowel movements, bloating, distention, gas, reflux, nausea, etc… Making your way through daily life can be difficult and very uncomfortable.

How does acupuncture help gut health?

Treatments to regulate gut health and digestion may include:

  • stimulating digestive function

  • stimulating bile release

  • moving blockages

  • introducing deep warmth

  • calming the nervous system

What will I experience in a treatment for gut health?

Everyone gets a different treatment because everyone has a different gut.

By asking in-depth questions about your digestion and observing your tongue, pulse, and physical abdomen, I better understand how your gut functions, especially with relation to the rest of your body.

Treatments may include:

  • acupuncture, on and off the abdomen

  • herbal medicine

  • moxibustion – the burning of dried mugwort over specific acupuncture points

  • cupping

  • personalised dietary advice

  • lifestyle tips

  • education on digestive function and its effects on other systems

What are some basic dietary changes to integrate?

  • eat breakfast! your digestive system has the most energy in the morning

  • coffee after breakfast, about 2 hours post-wake

  • warm cooked foods at least 80% of the time

  • warm or room temperature water

  • chew your food well

  • during meals, focus on eating and being calm – “rest and digest!”

  • eat until 60% full

  • don’t skip breakfast or meals if you have a “deficient” condition
